Alien Girl.. Oh where is she?

07/13/2006
By

Just when I made my last post I remembered a weird experience that happened to me years ago in Silicon Valley.

I was in a trendy Mountain View new age type book store. And in this type of place they have tons of books on Alien and UFO conspiracies which I absolutely DIG reading about..

Fun stuff..

So anyways there’s this surfer looking guy in the same section browsing books on some star people from the Andromeda Galaxy.. He was actually a decent looking guy who looked like he should be hanging out with the beach chicks in Santa Cruz..

Anyways I start a funny conversation with him about the book he’s reading through and asked him what it said about the Andromeda Galaxy People..

So get this.. in a totally serious expression and desperate tone of voice he looks at me and says..

“I’m trying to find out about their women..”

“Ahh.. What for..” I reply..

He monotones in that same longing voice..

“Because I really would like to meet them.”

My jaw drops.. “No kidding dude?”

“Well yeah.. I. I.. just want to talk to them.. that’s all..”

This is one of the moments in life when I realized that If I ended up staying in Silicon Valley I might end thinking like this poor bastard myself.. I could hear a voice in my head just like in the Amittyville Horror movie saying.. “GET OUT..”

And so out I went..

And life has been pretty good since..

Sounds like he could have been from Houdini’s hometown of Appleton, WI. The liberals here have ripped so much from the men that not much remains but the bottle or the joint.

    Canajun :(

    Get out indeed.

I’m from Indiana, but live in Seattle now. When I meet or just observe married people here, I don’t want to be them. I don’t want to spend my life with the look on my face that I see on theirs. I don’t want the life that these men (and women) seem to generally have.

What I appreciate about RW is that you’re reminding us that we have options. We have choices in “coordinate spaces” that I, frankly, keep forgetting that I have choices in. That the life we see around us (in coastal USA namely) doesn’t have to be ours. I’ve even BEEN to Thailand, fell in love (at a distance) with a couple volunteer girls at the youth hostel in Bangkok, and came home thinking “THAT is for me.”

But then years passed, I forgot about them, and re-resigned to the situation here.

So anyway, thank you, GL, for reminding us what options we really have.

Sorry this is a very, very old post but I’ve been enjoying all the posts and I had to drop a comment. I know that bookstore too! On Castro St. with that lovely waterfall in the back.

It is a lovely place to pass the time and you can actually feel a different energy there, a more accepting, warmer energy, with the layout, the smells, the varities of items on sale.

But only on the surface, in the external appearance of things. New Age would be a good alternative for people looking for a sense of home and a place where they could relax if you could be in New Age and not take all your ideas too seriously. At least, initially you might think so with the large number of new age places around there.

But New Age places can sometimes be even more expensive than regular places, people can end up taking their therapies too seriously and use them to go further down the self-focus road.

In the end a layout or a landscape however inviting cannot be warm for too long. It is only the people who make any place warm and can give you that solid sense of home. You have to be able to go to the bookstore with someone, or if the new age place has a community you have to feel a relationship with the community otherwise after the first few visits the bookstore/center/whatever will feel empty.

Searching for the alien girl, that seems all of sad/scary/funny at the same time.
