It was probably about 30F degrees today with a strong wind blowing in from the arctic.
In the time that I have been here this has to have been the shortest summer I’ve ever experienced in my life. I am truly amazed at how quickly this autumn cold and rain has literally dropped in on us. No use trying to use an umbrella today unless you wanted to turn it completely inside out and then throw it away.
One of my lady friends from the Northern Regions just informed me that it has already started to snow where she is from. Amazing.. and we are only in the last half of September.
Here’s the funny thing though..
As dark, wet and gray as this place gets during the autumn.. or even as dark and completely frozen it gets during the winter.. I have rarely ever felt the “blues” because of it.
To be quite honest.. I’ve experienced far more “blues” during the summertime in California then I have ever felt in Siberia. I know this might be hard to believe but it’s true..
Now this experience is not just unique for me. I’ve met some pretty “daring” American guys who weren’t afraid of all the scare tactics their friends were dropping on them about coming out to Russia in the winter. Because even if they weren’t properly dressed for this climate.. You would never be able to tell that they were “suffering” and wanted to go home.
As you might have guessed.. that idea was the farthest thing from their minds..
You see no matter how nasty the weather get’s over here.. Or no matter how many funny stories you may even have heard about Russian Polar Bears roaming the streets…
For Guys like you and I…
It’s actually pretty damn easy to have a GREAT Day here..
All it takes is a beautiful smile.. from a beautiful girl.. with a beautiful soul..
And as you know from reading this Blog.. that happens quite ALOT over here..
So if one little precious experience like this can light you up..
Imagine what 5 to 10 of them a day will do to you. And if some of you guys manage to come over here during the winter to check this out for yourself.
You just might find yourself asking.. “Who needs sunshine when you have this?”
Not too long ago.. the Great American Football Coach, Lou Holtz once said..
“Life is 10% what happens to you and 90% what you do with it..”
Now this is something I ABSOLUTELY agree with regardless of your life or circumstances.
But I got to tell you Gentlemen.. When I receive beautiful smiles like this during my day.. I just can’t help thinking to myself..
“Oh but what a Helluva 10% that is…”

That sounds truely amazing and eye opening.
THe way how you describe the winter weather almost sounds like northern Upstate New York where I lived for 5 years. The winter always has been that way, dark, cloudy, very windy and no sunny days. It kept snowing, snowing, snowing. Well, I love that kind of winter. I love cold weather! That’s much better than the hot and humid weather of the southern USA. I don’t mind living in cold winter year-round.
I grew up most of my life in southern USA. When I told to people that I was moving to northern Upstate NY for college, I always get response from those people, “Hey, it’s so cold and snowy up there.” They kept painting a gloomy and doom picture of cold winter. They kept saying how bad it is. I just laughed at their response and told them that I love snow and cold winters!
Cold weather, snow and beautiful girls… that sounds like my ideal place to live!
Right on QuietRebel!
I’m with you on that! I love the beach and surf, but put me in the cold and I’m a very happy man – I can’t wait to go to Russia with my girlfriend to see how they keep a man warm!
Funny, I always heard that russians didn’t smile often. I remember hearing a russian guy from moscow half joke that if he saw someone walking down the street in moscow that had a smile on their face he knew right away that it was a foreigner.
Russians didn’t smile much under Communism, because if you smiled people might become jealous of you, and then say something about you to the KGB (whether truth or lies), and you would not come home one night. That is what I have been told. But it no longer applies, and I have heard conflicting stories about post-Communist Russia.
I went to Irkutsk in December of last year and it wasn’t that bad. The whole trick is to dress appropriately.
I also like the cold weather. It looks like winter is also coming early to my part of the U.S., and I love watching the leaves change colors, not to mention the storms. That’s why I would rather move to Russia than the Philippines, even though the women in the Philippines are great too.
Same here, Hero! That’s how I feel about Russia over Philippines. I am a big time outdoor guy. I love woods, log houses, mountains, wilderness, cold winter, snow, hunting, skiing, mountain biking, shooting with guns…
I have heard quite a lot about Philippiness and their girls. While they may be great, but Oriental girls are not my cup of tea. I prefer Eastern European girls such as Russian over them. They know how to deal with the cold weather and how to have a great time in cold winters!
With my love for outdoors and log homes, I prefer to have a Russian girl with the similar love and passion for this kind of scenery and family. Obviously, that means I’m seeking a country girl living in Siberia, Urals or Far East.
Yeah, and besides, Filipinas tend to be very needy financially. One of my Filipina lady friends just sent me an email, telling me that her father needs an operation that will cost 200,000 pesos (about $2000), and she can’t afford it, and she has to put off college because of it, etc, etc. She didn’t actually ask me for money but I’m pretty sure she’s trying to get it from me. Hopefully Russian women aren’t like that.
Correction: she said 100,000 pesos
Hero : obviously a scammer.
Rather than write to women guys , just go over there for a month or three. Meet regular folks and women. No need for complexity. RW is correct.
You’re preaching to the choir, Mirror. I didn’t meet this girl on the internet, I went to the Philippines for 3 weeks and met this girl in a supermarket. In retrospect, I realize that I should have met a lot more women while I was over there.
