It snowed last night for the first time..
So according to an old Russian Tradition it’s time to make a wish and to take a shot of vodka.. Well I think I’ll hold off on the Vodka.. But I’ll keep the wish part.
Now normally I’m supposed to keep the wish a secret.. but I’ll break the rules a bit since I’m an American and we like to tell people what’s on our minds.
And I wish for all of you Guy’s to find the Girl of your dreams (if you haven’t done so already)..
I’m probably going to have to break out the winter parka here soon if this wind keeps up.. Nothing quite like having an icy blast of air hitting any exposed skin. Uggh..
Thank God the natural gas and the hot water is essentially free here.. there is no way this society could exist without this precious energy resource flowing.
Now if any of you guys are thinking about coming out soon.. Do me a favor and don’t let this post intimidate you. Just make sure you dress appropriately like you would if you were going skiing and you will be good to go.. Besides you will win some major “real man” points with your friends for saying that you had the guts to go to Russia during the winter!
In any-case.. I’ve talked to a few lady friends about the weather and according to them this is one of the earliest times they’ve ever seen snow fall since it’s not supposed to usually happen till November. This is one of the reasons why I question this whole Global Warming thing quite frankly. The last few winters have been just brutal.. This last winter was the coldest on record since the Nazi Army was frozen in their tracks during the invasion of the USSR. And I think we are in for another harsh winter. All goes to show how strong these ladies really are being raised in this environment.
One last thing worth mentioning..
I have noticed that a number of these ladies seem to be even more serious about looking for a Man to “give them shelter” now that the winter is certainly here. Can’t say I blame them. The prospects of going through a Russian Winter without someone to keep you warm at night is not something I would wish on anyone. But it happens..
So if you guys are still dealing with warm weather where you are at.. Get over here as quickly as you can and bring some of that sunshine along with your charm and enthusiasm.
Do this.. and I promise you the ladies will love you for it.

Funny that you mention this – I may actually be traveling to Moscow with my girlfriend at the end of this semester…
Needless to say – I CAN’T WAIT!!
The theory of “Global warming” isn’t quite as simple as you would think. It’s the AVERAGE temperature that’s supposed to increase. This doesn’t mean that every place on earth is getting warmer. For example, Greenland is actually supposed to get colder. Plus, the weather everywhere is becoming more erratic.
Anyway, I would love to be where you are; I’m sweating like a pig through this Indian summer we’re having in my state.
Also, with most climatologists agree where there is an increase of temperature there will be a period of cooling off. Mini ice ages.
We will not know if this warming up period is natural or man made at least with another 100 years of data collecting.
Remember the Beatles’ song Back in the USSR about keeping your comrade warm.
That’s funny about the cold weather. I’m not interested to win the “man point” for surviving the brutal winter weather. I already lived in area where the outdoor temperature was around -20 to -40 degrees Farenheit. I was dealing with all of this all by myself. I understand perfectly what you are talking about the winter and the heat.
What gets better than a relaxing night snuggling and cuddling with a beautiful Russian lady to keep her cozy?
Doesn’t it get better than being in the crazy world of being in your own business focus on making profit?
I just finished with studying Russian this morning. I was already done with copying the subtitles from a Russian movie: “бриллиантовая рука” translated to “The Diamond Arm.”
First Russian sentence from the movie I just learned: “Я веду репортаж из нашего морского порта.” Translation: “I am leading to report from our sea harbor.”
Over time of studying Russian, I am already so addicted to study the Russian language. It’s a great and beautiful language. More I study it, more I become very passionate and obsessed with it.
I still really feel like I want to get out of the states and experience Russia and get to practice my Russian. I am still working, but I’m thinking about going back to graduate school studying biomedical engineering. Wouldn’t it be nice to be able to study abroad in Russia while being a grad student?
Hell – it even snowed here in Houston, TX not too long ago…
As if the potholes in this damn city aren’t bad enough…
You are hooked QuietRebel. LOL
I am a bio-engineer by profession. I spent my senior year at Moscow State University came home in time to get my B.S. After I finished grad school, I spent another year teaching English in Moscow.
There are Russian language immersion schools in Moscow and St. Petersburg. Levels lasting from 2 weeks to 3 months. Lessons last 6 to 8 hours a day. On weekends you are taken on tours around the cities. Prospective students stay in dormintories or host families, who are usually university professors.

Thanks RW!! You don’t know how much that means to me.

Really great to know another bio-engineer here!
I received a B.S. in bioengineering last May. I am getting the words from other people that I still need to get at least master’s or PhD for this profession.
I have looked into different programs to study Russian and other interesting stuff in Russia. I’ve been really thinking about taking a year of studying Russian at Irkutsk State University in Irkutsk. I’ve heard that ISU has an excellent ecology program, and I’d love to experience the outdoors in the Siberia. I wanted to experience the country life in Russia as well as living with a Russian family. It would be wonderful to observe how Russian mothers do in compared to the USA.
I’m thinking about doing that next year before returning to grad school to study more in bio-engineering and hearing devices.
I’m with you 100% QuietRebel. I might be heading to Moscow this December with my Russian Princess… The funny thing is that as much as I’d like to hang out there – she would much rather stay here in the states.
I am looking forward to being kept warm though
*Sigh*
I’ve always wanted to visit northern Russia in the wintertime. For some reason, I’ve always wanted to visit St. Petersburgh too.
Welcome Sir_Chancealot!
Russia in the winter time is truly special. You start to get an idea for why their culture evolved the way it did.
Everyone is preparing for winter. And many of the women are longing to find someone to spend the winter with. It’s certainly a deep romantic, longing, melancholy feeling that pervades in the atmosphere.
I hope you get a chance to experience it. Going to St. Pete would be great.. but make sure you travel to Siberia to really see what Real Russia is like.
Take Care and Hope to hear from you again..
