The Real Reason for Thanksgiving

11/23/2006
By

Well I won’t be having any turkey for Thanksgiving since it’s next to impossible to find here and unfortunately it isn’t so popular in Russia.

So all of you Guys will just have to make sure that you help yourself to an extra serving of delicious food for me! Oh an don’t forget the gravy too..

Now if you can believe it..

I’ve NEVER met a local Russian Person who has ever had a chance to eat Turkey.. (and yes I know this is a Serious Bummer as far as they’re concerned)

What’s really interesting is that many Russian people actually know about Thanksgiving… and they really want to learn more about the traditions and events that surround it. So aside from explaining the history behind it I also try to explain that it’s really about being grateful for what you have in your life.

I tell them that it’s a special time to gather with your family and friends in order to thank the Good Lord for the Blessings that you have no matter what your circumstances are.

And on TOP of all of this especially for us Men..

We get to seriously PIG OUT and watch non-stop Football!

Now since I’ve always loved Thanksgiving and describe it as a Special Family Event..

I’ve noticed that the Women whom I’ve spoken to all get SERIOUSLY Misty-Eyed and openly start LONGING for a chance to experience a Real Thanksgiving for themselves..

And this is one of those moments in life that comes close to breaking your heart..

Because can you actually imagine what your life would be like without any Thanksgivings?

I certainly wish that I could magically give them all a REAL Thanksgiving..

A Thanksgiving where they are surrounded by loved ones who project the same level of Warmth and Love that they do.

And this is the thing that really makes me appreciate the many Thanksgivings that I myself have had.

You see in the US many of us (and I’m guilty of this as well) at some point may have taken Thanksgiving for granted because it’s just something that we’ve always done year after year.

However I can assure you that these Ladies would NEVER take this for granted….

Believe me you would gain a whole new appreciation for this Holiday if you could see the way they look at me when I talk about it..

If you could also hear the many detailed questions they ask about Thanksgiving you’d swear that they were taking mental notes as if they were getting ready for the time when they could prepare for one themselves.

And Quite Frankly..

This level of fascination and interest that they show is very humbling..

So as you sit back and enjoy your turkey, mashed potatoes, yams and pumpkin pie..

Make sure you give REAL Thanks to the Man Upstairs for what you are experiencing..

And if he smiles back on you..

You will someday get a chance to know the Joy in granting one of these Ladies their wish..

I hope you all are well and in good spirit on this day of helping others and thanking god for everything you have experienced thus far in your lives. It is a day of reflection and a day to prepare a great meal.

I enjoy the cooking of this meal the participation and the helping of it, and the effort it requires.

This year I prepared and cooked a 21lb turkey and helped with vegetable preperation to make it easier on my mum, who did sidedishes and desert and dad who makes the best mashed potatoes.

This is one of those true holidays where family gets together and just stays put, to relax, to have a few words and a nice big satisfying meal.

    It is my favorite holiday.

Furthermore that is pleasant and flattering that RW actually show great interest in this holiday tradition, Thank You for that!
And Thank You for everything you have done so far, you have helped men be men and encouraged women to be women and that’s all men want.

To you and yours: Live Healthy and keep the faith.

Oh, Happy and Deserved Thanksgiving to All…

GL, you do make it sound a revelation! My eyes misty to. There should be such holiday apart from any other occasions. Our New Year / Christmas feelings and ways are just a resemblance…

Thank everybody for the passionate and fine company. May you have more things to thank for each year.

Still, a grain of salt to all my sweet sensations… Isn’t a Football Pigout a thankless distraction? ;) Very much like what makes our Russian Husbands a notorious folk )

“Thank everybody for the passionate and fine company. May you have more things to thank for each year.”

Sorry if it sounds dubious. Meant wishing Many Happy Life Events and Benefits from year to year. (And of course great wives to spend next Thanksgivings together)))

    Sincerely,
    Comrade Natalia

    Happy Thanksgiving to everyone!

And a special thanks to rw_man for putting together this blog. This is my first post here, but I’ve been reading for a while.

It has been most enlightening to learn about Russian women from your perspective of living there. This post is particularly interesting to me. Are Russian women really that sentimental, that caring, that they would get misty-eyed at hearing about our American traditions of Thanksgiving? If so, then they truly are special.

It is my hope that one day I’ll find myself sitting at a table on Thanksgiving Day with a loving wife and happy children in a home filled with the warmth of love that only family can provide. In that image I see a woman with certain qualitites — qualites that you mention frequently in your comments about the Russian women you know. So if I must travel half-way around the world to meet and win the heart of a such a woman, then that is what I shall do.

Best wishes to all this holiday season…

Thanks for the Holiday Cheer Aaron..

Long live the Righteous Western Man too :)

    Welcome Aboard John,

As far as sentimentality with these women goes.. What I’ve described is only scratching the surface.. I see this expressed in so many different ways over here. Take all of the classic things in life that make women coo and get misty-eyed like pets, surprise gifts, birthdays, babies and multiply that by a factor of 5 when it comes to Russian Women..

There just seems to be this wonderful sense of clarity when you are around them. The clarity that comes with knowing that you are in the presence of REAL Women..

Hopefully you can start to get a sense of this through some of the photos on this site.

Please keep reading, posting, and telling your friends!

    Cheers, GL
